Notes from the blocks I walk home to

Yusof, portrait on a Punggol corridor

I am Yusof. I grew up in Singapore, moved to Punggol when the waterway was still new enough that neighbours argued about which bus route was fastest, and I have stayed because the evenings here know how to go quiet without feeling empty.

I work in an office that does not matter to this site. What matters is the walk home — past the interchange, along the park connector when I have time, through the void deck where the aunties sometimes leave oranges on the table for anyone who wants one. I notice things when I am tired enough to stop rushing: how corridor light changes floor by floor, how the fishmonger at Kang Kar wraps fillets like a small gift, how a stranger's hand on a pram handle can settle a whole platform.

Softlanding started as a folder of half-written paragraphs on my phone. I kept losing the good ones — the kopi pour before the LRT filled, the heron standing in the shallows like it owned the hour. A friend said I should put them somewhere. This is that somewhere. Not a publication, not a side business, not a wellness anything. Just a personal blog with my name on it.

I write in English with the occasional Malay word my aunties use and everyone in the kopitiam understands. I do not take sponsors. I do not offer advice as if I were qualified. I am one person with one view from one set of blocks — Punggol Field, Sengkang East, the long boardwalk to Coney Island when the legs are willing.

What I hope you find here is company, not instruction. If a piece feels like yours too — the bag by the door, the slow glide along the waterway — I am glad. If you think I got a detail wrong about a place, tell me. I would rather fix it than pretend I saw more than I did.

This is a personal blog. Everything here is written by me and reflects my own experiences, opinions and memories at the time of writing. Posts are personal reflections and are not professional, medical, legal, financial or fitness advice. Places and everyday moments are described from my own point of view; I don't name or speak for anyone else, and I try to write about my neighbourhood kindly and honestly. If I've got something wrong, tell me and I'll fix it.
